Veteran Alan Alda

Alan Alda is best remembered for his role as Hawkeye Pierce, a surgeon serving in the Korean War, on the hit TV show “M*A*S*H.”

Alda was Born in New York City on Jan. 28, 1936 and was exposed to show business at an early age. His father was a stage and screen actor and his mother was a former showgirl.

In high school Alda became interested in acting and writing. After high school he entered Fordham University, where he studied both English and Theater.

Alda joined the Army Reserve after graduating from Fordham.

After his discharge, Alda started acting in film and television. Alda won five Emmy Awards on the “M*A*S*H”, including awards for acting, directing and writing. “M*A*S*H” became one of the most popular shows in television history. Thank you Alan Alda for your service from Soldiers’ Stories!
