Dale Ellington FINALLY Receives his POW Medal

Dale Ellington FINALLY received his POW Medal during a ceremony at the Veterans Home in Union Grove. Ellington was on his fifth mission as a waist gunner on a B-17 crew when the bomber was hit by German anti-aircraft flak on April 13, 1944. With the plane’s fuel tanks damaged and control cables severed, the crew couldn’t make it back to the home base in England, so the pilot turned toward neutral Switzerland.
